We think we are as ready as we can be, so in a couple hours Birgit, Hannah and I head out of St. George’s harbor to cross the 1,800 miles to Horta in the Azores. Thirty eight boats will be traveling with us, more or less, although the three smallest boats (of which Serafina is one) will most likely be bringing up the rear.
Last minute showers to be taken, but water tanks are topped off, everything is stowed and lashed down, and weather charts are updated and reviewed. We will most likely stick to the rhumb line course, running the risk of light winds but avoided the skirts of the lows that seem to be tracking north of the line. Better too little wind than too much, says the cautious skipper.
The Bermuda break was a pleasure, now it’s back to work! Next post will come from Horta, whenever we get there. Should take between 15 and 18 days, but that’s just a “should.” Wind and weather will have the final word.
